Interesting facts

Located on Cape Sivuchya on the southern coast of Sakhalin, it has witnessed the passing of eras and decades of neglect. Built in 1939 by Japanese engineers, the lighthouse became a unique structure capable of operating in harsh climates and strong ocean currents. Its bright light was powered by a unique Fresnel lens. Later, the lighthouse was converted to radioisotope generators, making it fully autonomous.

Inside, there were nine floors: living quarters for the keepers, a diesel generator room, battery rooms, and fuel storage. After World War II, the lighthouse was transferred to the USSR, but with its collapse, it was abandoned and looted. All that remains of this once complex engineering structure are concrete walls, staircases, and traces of machinery.

Planning solutions

Miura Shinobu departed from standards and drew not one ring (the usual cross-section of a lighthouse shape), but two, and circled them into an "ellipse", which became the base of the unique object. We take this cultural code as a basis and continue it in architecture and planning solutions.
